Melanie has worked in the IP profession since 2008, with a focus on drafting and prosecuting patents and industrial designs in Canada and around the world. She strives to help people understand the IP system to make the best strategic decisions around IP protection. Melanie also provides advice on issues related to patentability, patent infringement and patent validity.

Melanie enjoys working with other IP professionals outside Canada to help protect their clients’ IP in Canada. She takes pride in being responsive and effective to ensure that applicants abroad can efficiently obtain the IP protection and advice they need in Canada.
Melanie has worked in a wide range of technological fields, including energy generation, downhole tools, sports equipment, medical devices, industrial machinery, instrumentation, imaging, and computer-related technologies. With a background in environmental science, she has a particular interest in cleantech.
Melanie is a former member of the Canadian National Biathlon Team. That experience ingrained in her the importance of excellence and continual improvement in everything she does. Melanie continues to maintain an active lifestyle, cross country skiing and mountain biking on the trails around Canmore and elsewhere in western Canada.
